SS501 debuted in 2005 under DSP Media, the same year as SM Entertainment’s mega-group, Super Junior.  The male group, made up Park Jung Min, Kim Hyung Joon, Kim Hyun Joong, Heo Young Saeng and Kim Kyu Jong, displays a range of pop music styles marked with complex Kpop dance moves.  The members chose SS501 as their name as an expression of their unity: Super Star Five United As One.

In addition to appearing on a variety of Korean talk shows and behind-the-scene shows together, the members have engaged in several high-profile solo activities, including starring roles in the musical Grease as well as the popular Korean drama Boys Over Flowers.

SS501 has won several awards throughout its career, including Golden Disk Awards, Seoul Music Awards and M.net KM Music Festival Awards.

The members left DSP Media in 2010, separating into three different Korean entertainment agencies.  However, they insist they are not disbanded.
