Signed with DR Music, Rania debuted in April 2011 with seven members: Saem (Hwang Se Mi), Riko (Kim Joo Yeon), Jooyi (Yoo Joo Yi), Di (Kim Da Rae), T-ae (Lee Seul Mi), Xia, (Jang Jin Young), and Joy (Kim Ji Hye). The group is considered a multicultural one since current and former members come from China, Korea, and Thailand and speak a variety of languages.  The choreography for their debut single “Dr. Feel Good” was met with censorship requests, and subsequently the dance was changed to avoid conflicts with performance and promotion of the popular single. After their second single “Masquerade,” it was revealed that American producer Teddy Riley, who produced their debut album, had decided to sever relations with DR Music - a choice that complicated Rania’s plans for an American debut. After the demise of DR Music’s relationship with Teddy Riley, Rania began working with Brave Brothers for their comeback mini-album, Time to Rock Da Show.

Despite the initial backing of Teddy Riley, several line-up changes (pre-debut announced the group with eight and then six members, actual debut featured seven members, and their 2012 promotions only had five members) and a controversial debut, Rania has remained in the Kpop news and music circles with two successful comebacks.
