Music Video Part I

IU’s videos often exhibit a sense being in a dream/fantasy/storybook world, with some exceptions. Her debut video, Lost Child is more significantly stylized with regard to set, fashion, and makeup as the story of her visit to the underworld to find a lost lover unfolds.  In videos associated with her Growing Up and IU...IM promotions, we see a quick deviation from dream sets: “Boo” uses a great video technique that allows IU to show up several times in the same shot as she rewinds her day so she can meet her boyfriend on time; “Hey (You Know)” shows a natural side of the singer as she performs in a dance studio; and “Marshmallow” imparts the feelings of a girl who is overwhelmed by her crush.  In 2010, IU produced music and accompanying videos for the television shows she participated in. She also released her album Real, which saw a return to a storybook-styled set for her popular single, “Good Day.” For her song “Only I Didn’t Know,” IU released two videos - one telling the story of a woman who is being used and held against her will, and the other video focusing on IU’s performance of the song. IU also sang with Korean Olympic ice skater Kim Yuna in 2011. IU’s video for “You & I” sees another return to the storybook set as she builds a time machine to meet the sleeping boyfriend she’s currently taking care of.
