In 2011, EXO debuted under the SM Entertainment label as a twelve member group featuring two subgroups: EXO-K (Korean) and EXO-M (Mandarin). Each subgroup has six members. EXO -K’s members are: Suho, Baekhyun, Chanyeol, D.O., Kai, Sehun. EXO-M’s members are Xiumin, Luhan, Kris, Lay, Chen, and Tao. According to S.M. Entertainment Founder Lee Soo Man, EXO is the first group of its kind to be promoted as a unit while simultaneously releasing music for two different markets (China and Korea).
The group had an extensive debut period, featuring over 20 videos introducing group members and their dancing and martial arts skills and their debut singles. The group has also won numerous awards in their rookie year, documenting their popularity, style, and music.
